A BIT ABOUT THE AUTHOR IN THE YELLOW J ACKET
Caroline Cox has travelled extensively throughout the world and her 30 years experience, is reflected in The Yellow Guide to Travel which offers over 200 travel solutions .
Her witty approach to life has seen Caroline present at a number of national conferences over the years. She is often called upon to TELL IT HOW IT IS….and pulls no punches. Industry Travel magazine Travel Reporter once described Caroline: “… she can be outspoken, she can be charming …”
Caroline has now drawn on her life experiences as she presents some of her tried and true travel tips. Included are her commonsense approaches to travel such as packing a suitcase and drawing up lists of what to do before leaving home – for example, making sure you put the dog out …how to deal with money and tipping.
Also included are handy hints on what to do in emergency situations.
“What determines an emergency situation differs between travellers. For me an emergency is usually a life and death situation, but for two of my travellers losing their false teeth was their emergency,'' says Caroline.
Bill was coughing and spluttering on a cookie crumb on board an international aircraft when his partner told him to go take a walk. He coughed up and down the aisles of the aircraft until he eventually made himself sick. When breakfast was served the following morning he realised that his top teeth were missing. His emergency was trying to find them down the chute of the aircraft. He was somewhat indignant when the flight stewards refused to help. Imagine 6 weeks without teeth!
Ronnie thought the world had come to an end when he left his mouth brace wrapped in a napkin at the dining table on a cruise ship. When the waiters cleared the table, Ronnie was left no option but to head down to the bottom decks of the ship to the garbage chutes. After almost an hour, all ended well but Ronnie needed a bath. He forgot to wear gloves and was very lucky he didn't pick up an infection.
Kerry on the other hand had a different emergency. While rowing down the Zambezi River , a hippopotamus took a chomp out of her fibre glass canoe capsizing it. Fearful of losing a limb should the hippopotamus decide to have another go, Kerry tried relentlessly to get her arms and legs out of the water. Still with Pith Helmet on, the acrylic nails and suntan lotion made it difficult to grip on to the upturned canoe. The day was saved when two knights in shining armour came by in a speed boat. But what of her personal belongs??” The passport! Money! Tickets! Credit cards! All gone….. What would you do?
“There isn't anyone I know , either a first - time or frequent traveller that won't get something out of The Yellow Guide to Travel . Looking after your safety and security while travelling is paramount to having a carefree holiday. The Yellow Guide to Travel is a must.”
